AirPlay not working? How to Fix Your AirPlay Problems

Having reliability issues while using AirPlay with your iDevice or Mac and Apple TV? Is AirPlay lagging, working only after a long delay, or not working at all? If you experience any of these issues, it’s time to fix your AirPlay problems.

AirPlay is one of Apple’s most revolutionary features. That’s because it allows you to wirelessly play content from one iOS device to another. For example, you could use AirPlay to connect your iPhone or Mac and your Apple TV to the same local Wi-Fi network. Once the devices are connected, you can then easily play content from your apps on the iOS device to your Apple TV.

Why AirPlay is Not Working on TV

If you are wondering why AirPlay is not working, you should know that there are several reasons for this. One of the main reasons why airplay is not working on Mac or any other iOS device is the network. For AirPlay to work correctly, each of the connected devices needs to be on the same network. If any of the devices fails to connect for one reason or another, AirPlay will not work.

The good news is, these problems are easily fixed with a few troubleshooting solutions you’ll learn in this article. So, let’s started;

How to Fix Apple AirPlay Not Working

  • Verify that both your iDevice or Mac and Apple TV or AirPlay Device are on the same WiFi network
  • If you don’t see the AirPlay icon, make sure that your Apple TV or other AirPlay device is powered on and also awake
  • Turn off Bluetooth on your iOS device (Settings > General > Bluetooth)
  • Make sure that your iOS device has WiFi enabled (Settings > WiFi)
  • Check that your WiFi router’s firmware is up to date
  • Make sure your Apple TV has the current software update (Settings > General > Update Software)
  • Verify that your iOS software is up to date
  • Reboot your WiFi router
  • Restart your Apple TV
  • Reset the iDevice by pressing and holding the on/off button and then slide the slider
  • Make sure that there is no more than one device trying to stream
  • Some third-party apps interfere with the AirPlay. In particular, third-party apps that do similar functions as AirPlay seems particularly problematic.
    • So if you have any apps that send your screen or media files to other media receivers or turn your iPad into an extra display, uninstall them. iFolks report problems with Duet and AirParrot, so uninstall these if you have them
  • macOS and OS X: If you use a firewall, make sure you aren’t blocking AirPlay Mirroring:
    • Apple Menu > System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall > Firewall Options and uncheck “Block all incoming connections” checkbox and check the “Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections” checkbox
